Mizuho Nishikubo's latest animated feature film, Giovanni's Island is one of the sixteen feature films selected in competition at the 36th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), to be held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 9 to 18, 2014. Giovanni's Island is the only Japanese film in competition, and the first ever Japanese animated film to be selected in competition at the festival. The screening in Cairo marks the film's premiere in the Arab world.

The Cairo International Film Festival was established in 1976 as the first international film festival held in the Arab world. It is the only international competitive feature film festival recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (FIAPF) in the Arab world and Africa, as well as the oldest in this category. Along with Cannes, Berlin and Venice, Cairo is one of the world top 15 A-Class competitive film festivals by FIAPF rating.
