Australian Premiere at Brisbane International Film Festival 2007
July 13, 2007
Mamoru Oshii's Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters (original title: Tachiguishi Retsuden) will receive its Australian premiere at the Brisbane International Film Festival 2007 (BIFF 2007), held in Brisbane, Australia, from August 1 to 12, 2007.
Started in 1992 and in its 16th edition this year, the Brisbane International Film Festival is internationally renowned and recognized for its cutting-edge Asian cinema programming.
Brisbane International Film Festival programmer and film critic Ben Cho describes the movie as "...fascinating and visually impressive. But what makes this a terrific example of Oshii's pioneering innovation and imagination is how he uses the film's cheeky playfulness to deliver all kinds of socio-political insights into Japanese society, harnessing both documentary and animated film forms to explore 'history' in an accessible and humorous manner. [...] Calling all fans of state-of-the-art filmmaking: your meal is served."
Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters has been invited in the Asia-Pacific Programme, and it one of the 10 films nominated by the festival for the FIPRESCI Award.
