Tetsuya Nishio receives Best Character Design Award at the 8th Tokyo Anime Awards

March 27, 2009

Tetsuya Nishio, character designer and key animation supervisor in The Sky Crawlers, is the winner of the Best Character Design Award at the 8th Tokyo Anime Awards, organized by the Tokyo International Anime Fair Executive Committee.

One of I.G's most prominent creators, Nishio was born on June 23, 1968. He started his career as an in-betweener for the slapstick TV series Osomatsu-kun. In recent years, he has gained popularity with his super-deformed anime style, but at the same time he contributed in several realistic productions. His credits include Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999, character designer, animation supervisor, key animator), Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (2001, opening animation artist), MiniPato (2002, character designer/animator), Innocence (2004, sub character designer, firearms designer, key animator), Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd Gig (2004, character designer, animation director) and the world-hit Naruto (2002~, character designer).
