Miss Hokusai wins Jury Award at Scotland Loves Animation 2015

September 11, 2015

Keiichi Hara new animated feature film, Sarusuberi: Miss Hokusai won the Jury Award at the 6th Scotland Loves Animation Festival (SLA 2015), held in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland from October 5th to 18th, 2015. The Glasgow screening marked the UK premiere of the film, and was attended by director Keiichi Hara.

The jury, composed by Jonathan Clements and composed by Garry Marshall, Claire Copping, John Noel and Justin Sevakis, motivated the award as follows:
"The jury highly valued Miss Hokusai's grasp not only of the sights, but also of the sounds and sensations of the Edo period. In consideration of the stated intent of the director, Keiichi Hara, to evoke the qualities of Hinako Sugiura's source manga, it was regarded as an excellent achievement. Professionals on the jury cited its parallels with the life of any creative, even in modern times, as well as the deft insertion of historical personages and local colour. The animation quality was deemed superb."
