Part VII
Aya's In principio erat Verbum: "Over Night"!
Aya Born in Hokkaido, she released her debut album Senjo no hana (A Flower in the Battlefield) in 2002. It was a stunning debut with members of Nirvana and Pearl Jam joining her. She became a much talked about new-generation female rock artist after being invited to the Summer Sonic Festival soon after her debut. Her second album Baghdad Sky, released in 2004 was picked by BMG to be released internationally through major sales networks in 40 countries worldwide. This was the first example of Japanese rock to have gained that status. Over Night is her latest song in two years. related link (Japanese only): http://www.bmgrock.com/aya/ |
What was your impression of the TV series Le Chevalier D'Eon?
It might have been the first time I felt so great about the word, "revenge."
I heard you wrote the song, Over Night especially for Le Chevalier D'Eon. How did you get the inspiration for the lyrics and the score?
The first illustration I saw was from the scene where D'Eon, splattered with the blood of his victim, walks in the burning city of Paris holding Lia's hands. I sort of started from that drawing to build up a world for which to write the lyrics.
Is there any specific technique you've used in this song?
I used the Memory Man a lot for guitar parts to bring out a sense of nostalgia, floating and warmth in the sound.
From your perspective as a musician with an experience of participating in an anime project, what are the similarities between expressing things with anime and music?
I think in both cases the process is the same: we start from scratch and create something as our imagination takes us, the difference being whether it's visual or audio. I think both are great since the finished work would stir up the emotions of those who are attracted to them.
Does the stimulation you get from animation affect you personally?
I get a lot of adrenalin pumping.
In this series called, "Les 24 Chevaliers," we ask each participant to give us one word that would express this entire project. What would that be for you?
That would be, Over Night meaning "from darkness into light." I worked with Daiki Kasho on this piece, which was conceived in the middle of night. Although the piece was incomplete, we were able to finish it when it was chosen as Le Chevalier D'Eon's ending theme. I am pleased that the song shares the concept of "from darkness into light" with the story of Le Chevalier D'Eon - where the truth is prevailed as the episodes progress.
To wrap up this interview, please give us your message to the audience of Le Chevalier D'Eon.
I just adore Robin!
