Masaaki Yuasa short film, Kick-Heart was greeted with the Best Animated Short Award at the 17th Fantasia Film Festival (Fantasia 2013), held in Montreal, Canada, from July 18 to August 6, 2013.

Fantasia Film Festival motivated the award as follows:
"Kick-Heart stood out for its overall originality, unique sense of timing, and its engrossing and vibrant style of motion and visuals."

Fantasia Film Festival is North America's premiere and largest genre film festival, taking place in the city of Montreal, and was the first member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation outside of Europe. It has been described by Quentin Tarantino as "The most important and prestigious genre film festival on this continent."
