OVERVIEW

 UIA 2011 Tokyo En
Kaleidoscope Showcase

This promo video was commissioned to Production I.G by Mori Building on behalf of the Japan Institute of Architects (JIA), and screened at the 22nd congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA), held in Istanbul July 3 - 7, 2005, where the Assembly chose the candidature of Tokyo as host city for the 2011 UIA congress.
Mori Building daringly discarded a traditional visual approach and chose to showcase Tokyo in a more futuristic light and in quite a novel way for its international audience of professional architects, and the clip indeed contributed to the UIA's final decision. Director Yumi Kamakura (Otogi Zoshi) selected some of the most visionary urban footage from Innocence and Otogi Zoshi, and edited this material with sequences from Mamoru Oshii's documentary film Tokyo Scanner (shot in high-definition from a helicopter) and Mori Building archive material, in a unique blend of animation and live action. The music is from Kenji Kawai's score for Innocence.
